Cookie Policy

Cookies and similar technologies used by the UKIEE website, including the current technology inventory and consent position.

Interim cookie notice — last updated 17 July 2026. This notice records the technologies intentionally used by the UKIEE theme. It must be checked against the live hosting environment, active WordPress plugins and any third-party services before analytics, advertising, embedded media or other non-essential technologies are enabled.

What are cookies and similar technologies?

Cookies are small files stored on a device. Similar technologies include local storage, session storage, pixels, software development kits and device identifiers. Some are necessary for a website to function; others are used for analytics, personalisation or advertising.

Current UKIEE theme inventory

Form-recovery session storage

Provider: UKIEE / UK Petroleum Co. Ltd
Technology: browser session storage using a key beginning ieeForm:
Purpose: temporarily preserves submitted form values when a server-side validation error returns the visitor to the form.
Duration: normally until the browser tab or session is closed, or the visitor clears browser storage.
Category: functional technology used to support form completion.

The stored values remain in the visitor’s browser until they are submitted or the browser session ends. Visitors should avoid entering unnecessary sensitive information.

WordPress administration and authentication

WordPress may use strictly necessary authentication, security and preference cookies for authorised administrators or other logged-in users. Ordinary public visitors are not required to create a website account for the current expression-of-interest forms.

Hosting and security technologies

The hosting, firewall, content-delivery or security provider may set strictly necessary technologies to deliver pages, balance traffic, prevent abuse or protect forms. Their exact names, providers and durations must be added to the live inventory once the final hosting and security configuration is confirmed.

Analytics, advertising and third-party embeds

The UKIEE theme does not intentionally activate analytics cookies, advertising pixels or third-party video embeds for public visitors at the date of this notice. Self-hosted website video does not by itself require a third-party tracking cookie.

This statement must be rechecked whenever a plugin, analytics service, social-media embed, map, webinar tool, advertising service or external media player is added. A service must not be treated as cookie-free merely because it is embedded through another provider.

Consent for non-essential technologies

Non-essential technologies will not be activated before the visitor has received clear information and taken an informed, unambiguous positive action where consent is required. Continuing to browse, silence, inactivity or a pre-ticked option will not be treated as consent.

Before any non-essential technology is introduced, the site must provide controls that allow visitors to:

  • Accept or reject non-essential technologies.
  • Choose categories or services where appropriate.
  • Access an up-to-date inventory identifying provider, purpose and duration.
  • Change or withdraw a choice as easily as it was given.
  • Use the core website even when non-essential technologies are rejected, except where a clearly requested third-party service cannot operate without them.

Browser controls

Browser settings can delete or block stored information, but browser controls are supplementary. They do not replace the website’s obligation to obtain valid consent before setting non-essential technologies where consent is required.

Updates to this inventory

The live inventory should be reviewed whenever WordPress, the theme, plugins, hosting, forms, analytics, media embeds or marketing tools change. If the live website uses technologies not listed here, they must be investigated and the inventory and consent controls updated promptly.
